Core building
The Core is home to our Invisible Worlds exhibition, which explores the interconnectedness of life and the environment at every scale. You'll also find temporary art exhibitions on the top floor, showcasing incredible work by nationally and internationally renowned artists.
The beautiful modern architecture of the Core is based on the structure of a sunflower, which is made of hundreds of flowers that combine to create something greater than the sum of their parts.

Extinction: Renewal, Art of a Living Planet
In this landmark exhibition, which is on until 19 September 2027, explore humanity's relationship with a changing world, from prehistoric time, through the present and into the future. The exhibition brings together sculpture, photography, film and contemporary art from 36 world-renowned artists, and can be found on the ground floor of the Core.

Enter the Core to discover how life is shaped by invisible systems, and marvel at the giant Infinity Blue 'breathing' sculpture in the centre of this huge space.
Core facts
- The Core, on three floors, is built into the landscape so that each floor is accessible from ground level.
- The Core’s timber structure comprises Forestry Stewardship Council-endorsed glulam (glued laminated) beams.
- The floors consist of Marmoleum (made from flax), concrete from china-clay sand (low carbon footprint), green tiles from recycled Heineken bottles and a copper roof from a single Rio Tinto mine, known for its high social and environmental standards.
