Horticulture Team
Providing support to our gardeners with potting, planting, weeding, ground clearing and more, you'll work as part of a large team and will be surrounded by experienced professionals with lots of knowledge to share. Horticulture Volunteer Information
What areas are covered by the Horticultural Teams?
The Eden Project is made up of two Biomes covering about six acres, surrounded by our 30-acre Outdoor Garden. We also have a 200-acre Outer Estate and a nursery of over 7000m² comprising of different planting zones including crops, fruit, mixed floral borders, geographical zones, ethnobotanical exhibits and so much more.
What will a Landscape Volunteer do?
Our Landscape Volunteers will help maintain and develop the Eden Project's landscapes in all areas including woodwork such as building and maintaining decking, fixing cobbles or installing new garden developments. This is a public facing role.
What will an Estate Horticultural Volunteer do?
Our Estate Volunteers will help maintain and develop the Eden Project's estate, engaging with a range of plants and ecosystems including wetlands, coppices, Chilean flora and meadows. This role, once trained, may include work with small machinery such as strimmers and mowers. This is a public facing role.
What will a Biomes and Outdoor Gardens Volunteer do?
Volunteers will support the Horticultural Team to engage and inspire visitors by creating world class exhibits of fruit, vegetables and ornamental displays, covering both geographical and ethnobotanical narratives, from farming and food systems, to the science behind weather. This will include seasonal jobs including pruning, soil preparation, sowing of seeds, harvesting, pest and disease monitoring and protection, Biome maintenance, weeding and harvesting. This is a public facing role.
What will a Nursery Horticultural Crops Volunteer do?
Our Nursery Horticultural Volunteers will help propagate plants vegatively and by seed for our plant retail outlets, for food production for our restaurants and for the plant collection that is the corner stone of the Eden Project. Predominantly, this is not a public facing role.
Back-of-house volunteers could assist the Horticultural Team with data basing plant and seed collections, creating herbarium specimens, maintaining our library and ethnobotany collection. This is not a public facing role.
Volunteer Driver
As a charity, we run a variety of nature-based health and wellbeing activities, including weekly therapeutic horticulture sessions designed for people experiencing mental ill-health.
As a Volunteer Driver, you will be picking up our Therapy Garden participants from a landmark near their home and bringing them to Vounder Farm on our outer estate.
This role involves lone working with adults experiencing mental ill-health, so some experience in this area would be beneficial. We’d also require you to have business cover on your vehicle’s insurance, a valid tax & MOT, and a clean driver’s licence. You will also be asked to completed a DBS check.

Traffic & Transport and Car Parks Team
Volunteering in this role supports the ‘Bumble Bus’ Transport Team, assisting people getting on and off our electric buses. When it's busy, you will also spend some time in the parking areas counting remaining spaces in each car park and reporting to the teams on site, as well as managing the queue for the park and ride bus.
A full UK driving licence is essential in this role as you will be required to assist in driving the staff minibus.

Visitor Experience Team
Supporting our Stewards Team, you will be visible on site and will engage with visitors. From welcoming guests at the Visitor Centre and taking group photos, to litter picking, cleaning signage and directing people to the nearest toilets or restaurants, you will ensure our visitors have an extraordinary day out with exceptional customer service. Everything you do in this role will enhance our visitors’ experience.
This role is required generally between Easter and October half term, as well during our Christmas lights experience.

Walk Leader
As a Volunteer Walk Leader, you'd support our friendly weekly walking group, specifically designed for adults who would benefit from increased activity to support their health and wellbeing. The group meets most Fridays at 10.30am, and offers a range of routes around the Eden Project to suit all abilities and paces, with opportunities to connect with nature and each other.
This is a regular volunteering opportunity, most Friday mornings between 10.15am and 12.15pm. Find more details about the walk here. Training opportunities will be provided for you to engage in.
To be considered for this role you would need to be physically able to complete the walks and also be happy to complete a DBS application, the cost of which will be met by Eden.
