Moving you closer to nature

Volvo and the Eden Project are working together to help connect people with nature, guided by a shared belief that a deeper connection to the natural world around us leads to a safer and more sustainable future.

Sustainability at Volvo

As a mobility provider, Volvo recognises that they have been part of the problem of climate change and have a responsibility to act. Sustainability is as important to Volvo Cars as safety. By working towards net zero, embracing the circular economy and conducting their business operations responsibly, they are on a mission to help protect the planet and improve people’s lives. By reducing emissions across their entire value chain, they are aiming to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. As an interim step towards their 2040 target, by 2030 their ambition is to have reduced CO₂ emissions per car by 65–75 per cent.

The world's natural resources are limited. So, Volvo Cars are aiming towards becoming a circular business by 2040 – minimising their use of primary resources. They're focused on eliminating waste and pollution, making greater use of recycled material, and remanufacturing and reusing parts.

Volvo Cars has been recognised for its sustainability strategy by global environmental non-profit organisation CDP, securing an A-score for its actions aimed at cutting emissions, mitigating climate risks and becoming a climate-neutral company. This places Volvo Cars in the highest tier of CDP’s climate change list, together with only a small number of companies. Almost 23,000 companies participated by disclosing data on their environmental impacts, risks and opportunities, and Volvo Cars’ high score reflects its position as a leader in environmental ambition and climate action.

Volvo electric vehicle fleet inside the Mediterranean Biome at the Eden Project

Working with Eden

Volvo provide the Eden Project with a fleet of fully electric EX40 cars which serve as the backbone of our operations and help to reduce our carbon footprint on-site and beyond. The cars are used daily by multiple teams, from Eden Sessions event staff to site managers, paramedics and more.

The vehicles are also used by teams working on new Eden Projects in Morecambe and Dundee for travel to and from those locations.

Together, we aim to facilitate moments of connection with, and a deeper understanding of the natural world around us – moving people closer to nature.

Supporting the Nature Connections Early Years Programme

Volvo proudly supports the Eden Project’s Early Years Programme which provides a range of nature-based activities for under-fives. The programme emphasises the importance of children fostering a connection with nature and nurturing a family culture of outdoor exploration.

Nature Connections Early Years activities include ‘Little Eden’, a weekly outdoor activity club for under-fives set in Eden’s wild perimeters which celebrates the great outdoors through games and stories, quests and hunts, making and creating, and campfire cooking.

The programme also includes ‘Music in the Med’ sessions where children can sing, play and move to the Beat of the Biome.

The partnership with Volvo will allow the Eden Project to double the number of Early Years sessions over the next year, which represents an additional 1,250 places.
